Commercial Epoxy Flooring with Concrete Repair
January 20, 2026
This project highlights a
commercial-grade epoxy flooring system
installed in a high-traffic interior environment. The goal was to create a seamless, durable, and easy-to-maintain floor capable of withstanding daily foot traffic while delivering a clean, professional appearance.
Projects like this are common throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the greater New England region, where commercial facilities require flooring systems that can perform year-round despite moisture, temperature swings, and heavy daily use.
As shown below, the existing concrete floor required extensive preparation before any coating system could be installed. Evaluating the starting condition of the substrate is a critical first step in ensuring long-term performance for commercial epoxy flooring installations.

Project Overview
- Flooring System: Solid Color Epoxy with Protective Urethane Topcoat
- Application Type: Commercial / Institutional Interior Space
- Substrate: Existing Concrete Slab
- Key Benefits: Slip resistance, moisture mitigation, durability, seamless finish

Surface Preparation & Moisture Control
Every successful epoxy floor begins with proper surface preparation. For this project, the concrete substrate was mechanically prepared using
dust-controlled diamond grinding
to remove contaminants, open the concrete pores, and ensure proper adhesion.
A self-leveling underlayment was installed to correct surface irregularities and create a flat, uniform base for the epoxy system.

Once cured, the self-leveling material produced a seamless surface ready for coating installation. Proper preparation helps prevent coating failure, delamination, and premature wear, especially important for commercial buildings throughout MA and RI.

Epoxy Flooring System Installation
After preparation, a moisture-mitigating epoxy primer was applied to protect the system from vapor transmission commonly found in concrete slabs across the Northeast. A pigmented epoxy base coat was then installed and broadcast with aggregate to improve traction.

The system was completed with a pigmented grout coat and a
urethane topcoat,
providing long-term protection and enhanced slip resistance.
- Improved chemical resistance
- Enhanced slip resistance
- Long-term wear protection
- Clean, professional appearance

Detail Work & Cove Base Installation
To provide a hygienic and finished look, a 4-inch vinyl cove base was installed around the perimeter. Cove base systems are commonly recommended for commercial epoxy floors in healthcare, education, and institutional environments.

Finished Result
The completed floor delivers a smooth, modern finish designed to perform in demanding environments throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New England.
